• It is preferred to have the Master Bedroom in the South-West corner of the house

• The position of the beds should be in the South West corner of the room leaving more open area on the East and North side in the room.

• While sleeping you should sleep with your head on the South side of the room (See VASTU FOR BEDS ALSO).

• Mirrors with dressing tables should be fixed on east or north walls.

• Wardrobes / Almirahs should be on the South, West, North - West or the South - West of the room.

• As far as possible , the safe should not be kept in the Bedroom. In case it is kept, then it should be kept in the south and opens in the North.

• T.V, heater, electrical appliances should be in the south east corner.

• Suitable position for the placing of Drawing Room is the North side of the building as shown in Figure - 1.

• Best position for placing bedroom for children is the North - West corner of the building as shown in Figure - 1.

• The second best position is the South - East corner of the building as shown in Figure - 2.

• 3. Study table for children should be placed such that while sitting down to study or to do work you should be facing North or East. Books / bookracks should be placed in the east and the north direction or in the west, they should not be placed in the North - west or the south - west corner of the room.

• For position of beds check in vastushastra for Beds

• The best position for placing the dining room is the East side of the building. Then the West and the North sides of the building.

• While taking food the head of the family should sit facing the east.

• Others should sit facing the East, West or the north. However nobody should sit facing the south.

• It is preferred to have the Parents/ Aged peoples Bedroom in the South-West corner of the house.

• If attatched toilets are provided then these should be so placed that they are on the South - West side of the room. If not possible the other locations are the East side and South - East side of the bedroom.

• Washbasin/Sink for cleaning utensils should not be in the North East corner of the kitchen.

• It is preferred to have the Guest Bed Room in the North - West corner of the house as shown in Figure - 1.

• If it's not possible to provide it in the North - West corner then the next preference is to provide it in the North - East corner of the house refer FIGURE-2.

• It is preferred to make the Puja room in the North - East portion of the house as shown in Figure - 1.

• If not possible then it should be provided in the North or East portion of the house as shown in Figure - 2.

• Doors and windows should be in the North and East.

• The idols should be in the east and the west of Puja-room. The faces of the idols should NOT be in the North or the South.

• It is preferred to make the servant room in the South - East portion of the house as shown in Figure - 1.

• If not possible then it should be provided in the South portion of the house as shown in Figure - 2.

• Bed should be placed in the South - West area of the bed room more open space should be left towards the North and East side of the bedroom.

• It should be so placed that you face the North and your head should be in the South side of the bed while sleeping, thus bed should be placed in the North - South direction as shown in Figure -1.

• If not possible the bed should be placed in the East - West direction as shown in Figure - 2 and your head should be towards East while sleeping.

• Store should be positioned on the South side of the plot as shown in Figure - 1.

• It is preferred to make the Toilets on the West side of the house as shown in Figure - 1.

• If not possible then it should be provided in the North - West portion of the house as shown in Figure - 2.

• Avoid making Toilets in the North - East portion of the plot.

• W.C should be placed in the South - West corner of the toilet and placed in the South - North direction. You should be facing north while sitting on the W.C, if not possible then the second option is facing South, but never facing towards East or West.

• Washbasin, looking mirror and shower should be fixed on the North or East wall of the toilet.

• The slope of the flooring and the direction of travel of water should be from South - West corner to North - East corner.

• Suitable positions for the placing of Garage are the North - West and the South - East corners of the plot as shown in Figure - 1.

• It is preferred to have the balconies on the North face of the building as shown in Figure - 1.

• Second preference as shown in Figure - 2 is to keep the Balconies on the East face.

• We can keep Balconies on the south - west corner but we should keep them filled with planters.

• Foundation stone should be placed in the North - East corner of the plot as first preference.

• Second preference is given to the placing of stone under the foundation of the North - East corner of the building

• Excavation of foundations should be started from North - East corner and then proceed towards N-W and S-E corners. After this excavation should proceed towards South - West corner as shown in figure - 1.

• The above procedure takes care that the ground in S-W corner is always higher than both N-W and S-E corners; these in turn are always higher than the N-E corner.

• Construction of foundations should be started from South - West corner and then proceed towards N-W and S-E corners, after this construction should proceed towards North - East corner as shown in figure - 1.

• The above procedure takes care that the constructed building in S-W corner is always higher than both N-W and S-E corners; these in turn are always higher than the N-E corner.

• It is preferred to have the Basement in the North-East corner of the house since the level in this corner should be the lowest in the plot.

• Second preference should be give to North - West corner and South - East corner.

• It is not preferred to give basement in the South - West corner of the house.

• If basement is given below the complete building then slope should be provided in excavation, foundations and flooring from South - West to North - East corner of the building that is N-E corner should always be the lowest.

• Mezzanine can be located any where in the building except in the North - East corner of the building where it should be avoided.

• Open area should be kept on the North - East side of the plot as shown in Figure - 1.

• It should be lesser on the West side and minimum on the South side of the plot.

• It is preferred to make the overhead Water Tanks in the South - West side of the house as shown in Figure - 1, since this portion of the house should be highest.

• Under ground water tank should be provided in the North - East portion of the house as shown in Figure - 2, since the ground level on this side should be the lowest.

• Avoid making Overhead water tanks in other areas incase they are made then they should be placed such that their top should be lower than the building portion in the South - West of the house.

• It is preferred to have the Study Room on the West side of the house.

• Study table for children should be placed such that while sitting down to study or to do work you should be facing North or East.

• Books / bookracks should be placed in the east and the north direction or in the west; they should not be placed in the North - west or the south - west corner of the room.

• Tube well should be located preferably on the North side of the North - East corner of the plot as shown in Figure - 1.

• Well or Sumps should be provided in the North - East portion of the house as shown in Figure - 2, since the ground level on this side should be the lowest.

• The other positions where well/sump can be provided are shown in Figure - 2

• Swimming pool should be placed towards the North East corner of the plot since the ground on this side of the plot should be lowest.

• Trees which grow tall should be planted in the South - East and the South - West corners of the plot.

• Trees which do not grow tall and are not large in size should be grown on the South, West and North West side of the plot.

• Planting of trees on the East, North and North - East sides of the plot should be avoided.

Vastu for Commercial Buildings

• We are also in the process of updating for shops, factories etc. OFFICES: Given below are some basic guidelines for offices and buisness establishments-

• Owners/ Senior executives of any establishment should have their cabins in southwest portion of the office and should sit facing either east or north. The entrance doors to such cabins should be placed in the North, East or Northeast side of their cabins. Northwest and Southeast sides should be avoided for doors placement.

• In general furniture and cabinets should be placed in the South and the west part of the cabin or office and never in the north or northeast portion incase due to no scope of change they are to be placed in the north or northeast then they should be kept at some distance away from the wall.

• In general offices having roads / entrances on North and the East side flourish easily. While offices having roads and entrances on the Southwest and the northwest direction are ok for short time period use only and should be shifted in a few years since in the long run buissness can start declining after a good start.

• Any cash kept in drawers or lockers should be kept in the South and should open towards the North or the East.All old records / files should be kept in a store located in the Southwest of the office. While stationary required for regular use should be stored in the Northwest corner of room.

• Location of entrances to offices / shops w.r.t their facing is given below.

• Offices / shops facing North: The entrance should be in the North eastern side and steps should be in the northern north eastern side, the steps can start from the North North western side to the North east side. The flooring should slope from South to North and from West to East. Semi-circular steps are not permitted. In this case entrance should not be made in the North western side.

• Offices / shops facing East: The entrance should be in the North eastern side and not in the South eastern side. The flooring should slope from west to east and from south to north. The steps should be made in North east.Semi-circular steps are not permitted.

• Offices / shops facing South: The entrance should be in the South eastern side and not in the Southwestern side. The steps should be arranged in the South eastern side and should not be made with a south western side movement and should not be made in the Southern South west.Semi-circular steps can be made in the Central South. Flooring should slope from South to North and from West to east.

• Offices / shops facing West: The entrance should be in the North Western side and not in the South western side.Steps should be arranged in the western northwest side.Semi-circular steps can be made in the Central West.. Flooring should slope from South to North and from West to East.
